Siam Collection was officially launched in 2017 by Johannesburg based designer, Jennifer Girdwood. She was motivated to create a fashion label of her own, a brand that is uniquely South African and one that is full of colour.
The first Spring Summer collection named ‘Fleurs du Feu’ / ‘Fire Of Flowers’ has a distinct point of view and clearly represents the brand’s vision as a whole. 


Siam Collection’s distinctive brand presence was inspired by beautiful Thailand. The vibrant colour palette and color combinations used within Thai textiles were the catalyst which brought this brand to life.
The graphic, exuberant nature of South Africa and its traditional fabric prints were a source of further inspiration, which has lead to an exclusive floral print being created. This floral design has been featured in unexpected areas of garments such as jacket and sleeve linings. Siam prides itself in the quality of their garment construction as well as the ability to bring interesting and fiery design to South African women.
All of the garments are designed by Jennifer herself and are 100% produced in South Africa. It has always been her aim to be a part of, and contribute to, the growth of the South African fashion industry.
As it is with all things in life, creating something of one’s own which is meaningful, unique, sustainable and which grows according to one’s vision and definition of success, is an extremely challenging feat. 
There are many tests one has to work through on one’s way to launching a business and they are mostly ‘self’ related. Characteristics that will definitely be tested are; patience, ingenuity and creativity, one’s drive and vision, self-belief,  determination and the ability to have perspective and separate emotions from business decisions. One learns a lot about oneself in the process of creating something else. 

The biggest challenge Jennifer has found throughout the launch of her label is the lack of quality industry suppliers and industry support. 
In order to overcome all of these challenges one has to be tenacious and pursue solutions. It is very easy to give up and as a result many, many small businesses close their doors. 

We are all stronger together and by seeking the advice, expertise and the help of others when it is needed makes all the difference.  It is in this arena that Jennifer has found the most difficulty and therefore Siam Collection aims to promote collaboration and support between ambitious women in South Africa and is aiming to be more than just a pretty clothing brand. Projects in the pipeline are intended to grow the brand to be a source of empowerment and support for South African Women. 
 Siam is the brand for the boss lady, for the women who want to wear something unique and exclusive, for the women with taste and flaire.

Creative and Entrepreneurial background with a mother in the arts and  father who has his own manufacturing company. On finishing my matric, I aimed to further my education in Fashion design but ended up qualifying with a Marketing Diploma via the IMM Marketing Institution as my Father did not encourage a qualification in Fashion. I knew that the skills I had gained from my studies would one day be applied to me pursuing my career within the fashion industry or any related creative sector. In saying this, I needed to gain work experience, and I was presented with an opportunity within an industrial corporate marketing position, a far cry from where I had seen myself. While gaining corporate work experience, I never let go of my aspiration to work within a creative and inspiring industry and soon became interested in the art of makeup. After studying for my Honours Degree in Business Philosophy, I promised myself that the next thing I study and pursue would be in line with my passion, with that I resigned and studied makeup full time.
This was the best choice I have ever made for myself. I learned so much about myself in accepting my corporate journey in the way that we aren’t always going to like what we do but will still have the opportunity to grow and learn no matter what position we are in. Studying makeup taught me that in following your passion and talents, you would accept the challenges far more vigorously, work and live every day more happily and merely live a far more fulfilled life.


There are many reasons I enjoy being a makeup artist but to list a few reasons as to why I am so passionate about what I do, is because I get to interact with different people regularly. I have a creative challenge every time I have a different face to work on, as each “canvas” changes no matter how many times I have done the same application. It is incredibly rewarding to see someone feel good about themselves; the makeup industry is ever changing and hugely innovative, and having your work conveys a message of who someone is or who they aspire to be.

Makeup tips/advice:
When in doubt, focus on your skin application
A winged eyeliner always adds glamour
Brows are as important as everyone says, they frame your face.
Not too much blush but DON’T go without.
Mascara application starts at the root to the end of the lash in a side to side “wiggle” motion
Test colour on your collarbone or chest, not your hand. Your chest is the closest area to your face when looking straight ahead and gets the same amount of sun as your face.
Wetting your eyeshadow brush before applying highly pigmented shadows will give you a long-lasting “wet” look.

Sixty-seven-year-old Linda Rodin is the epitome of minimalist chic. The former model, stylist, fashion editor, and now beauty entrepreneur is known for her silver hair, vibrant lipstick, and audacious eyeglass frames.


Her fashion and beauty philosophy is simple and streamlined. Rodin created her cult-famous neroli and jasmine-infused face oil, Olio Lusso Luxury Face Oil, at home in a coffee cup because she couldn’t find a beauty product she loved that showed results. Her eponymous beauty line, RODIN, consists of a small core collection of essentials: body oil, hand cream, and a nourishing lip balm.
Linda Rodin used to wear light purple so frequently her teenage boyfriend called her Lavender Lee. Recently (June 2016), Rodin launched two new products: Lavender Absolute Face Oil and Lavender Absolute Body Oil. With a clean and invigorating scent, the formula combines Bulgarian lavender stems and French lavender absolute and reprises the base oils of the original Olio Lusso she created nine years ago.

Rodin also curated a just-released Luxury Lipstick collection . Each of the five gorgeous matte shades are housed in a clear, modern case and are infused with her luxury oils, the cornerstone of RODIN. My father used to take films of us all from 1945 -1970. I found a clip of my mother, Beatrice, aka Billie, riding her bike down our lane. And she was wearing this beautiful color! So it’s Billie on the Bike.

IN HER OWN WORDS  ON STYLE

My hair started turning grey when I was about 35. Technically, it started early but I was very lucky because it came in evenly. I never thought about dying my hair, ever. And when I was about 58, I realized I couldn’t see so I needed glasses. My signature look kind of found me rather than me finding IT.



 I’ve always been a jeans girl.

She is also a dog person: her constant companion is Winks, a silver grey poodle.



Sleep! That’s what I always say—the same thing. I sleep a lot and I take good care of myself. I eat very well; I’m a healthy eater. I’m not an exercise person, so I don’t have any regime for that. I think I just sleep well and eat well. I really think that’s the key—for me, anyway.


I don’t make makeup, so I use  NARS and  Make Up Forever lipstick. I use Maybelline mascara. I’ve been using that since I was 14 –same hot pink and green package. It literally hasn’t changed since I was 14. I don’t wear eye makeup and I don’t wear foundation.



I eat the same thing every day. I eat organic romaine lettuce, mixed with organic avocados and an organic hard-boiled egg. I have some kind of organic fish or salmon. It doesn’t have to be organic; I’m not a nut about it, but I do the best I can. I have really good Italian olive oil, coarse salt, and sometimes I’ll have bread and cheese. And I always have two glasses of crisp white wine.





You have to get old and embrace it and do the best you can. You can’t try to be young forever.

HER FASHION LIFE  :

“Where were you for the past 40 years?”’ she laughs. As her star continues to burn bright, she talks 
‘I wasn’t aware of fashion until my mid-20s, and I never would have said it would be my career – I didn’t even know it was a career. I wanted to be a photographer, but it was my sister who said, “You don’t take great pictures, but you do get great clothes. Maybe that’s a job.”


‘My first styling job was a catalogue for Henri Bendel – the hippest store in the world in 1983. Then I went to Harper’s Bazaar, which wasn’t for me. It was the only full-time job I’ve ever had and I lasted 10 months. I didn’t like having to be in the same place every day.

‘Working on a Victoria’s Secret TV commercial in Venice was a one-off, thrilling experience because I got to work with Bob Dylan and I was a fanatic. He wore his own clothes, although he liked some of the stuff I brought and we gave it to him. But just meeting him was a high point of my career. He is still my idol.


‘I’ve steered away from working with celebrities, because it can be so problematic. To dress somebody who’s not sure what they like is too stressful. Emma Stone has a great stylist – she consistently looks good. But I look at some outfits on the red carpet and I’m like, “Why did anybody even show you that dress?”

‘I thought I looked great until I was 60 – honestly, I didn’t see anything wrong. I liked that my face got narrower. I tried filler three years ago and one day I looked in the mirror and thought, “Something’s wrong.” My chin had got bigger and even though my face was smooth, it didn’t look pretty to me. You can fill up and smooth out, but it doesn’t always look better.

‘I don’t think 68 is old; it’s just that – in our culture – 28 is old. I have so many friends who are older than me who feel young, too. In the fashion and beauty bubble I am a strange bird, but in the wider context of the world, I’m not.


‘I did a shoot for a magazine that was so retouched that I looked like a martian. I told the editor she couldn’t publish them. But then every face in the magazine – young and old – had been completely redone. I actually like the way I looked. It was funny but it was such a fraud.

‘I love Marni, Burberry Prorsum and Saint Laurent. But not the outlandish stuff. I’m too little. Preen by Thornton Bregazzi make great jeans and tees, and I love Acne Studios. But I’m not a big shopper. I always buy the piece that’s on sale because nobody else liked it.


‘I have no idea how to describe my style. I’m not frilly and I don’t dress to get attention – I’m not going to walk around in a green hat with a purple coat. At my age I don’t do sleeveless any more and I wouldn’t wear a short skirt without black tights. But otherwise my style is whatever takes my fancy.


‘Most of my friends aren’t in the fashion industry, but some of them understand what I do and that’s great. A lot of them are proud of me for making a product that’s become recognizable. But the fact they don’t really know what goes into it is a plus. I couldn’t be totally immersed in one thing.’

LIFE IS A BEAUTIFUL EXPERIENCE - ZITA DU PREEZ

Life is a beautiful experience when you truly start seeking your purpose. More often than not, you find yourself being faced with so many challenges that would potentially be a distraction or a roadblock.

Now the reality of life is this - you can't run from these things, it's going to happen, it's a fact. No one in the universe will ever grow without going through challenges. No one will ever level-up or achieve something greater in their life, without the hardships that comes along with it.
This is where your character becomes very pivotal in overcoming these unforeseen obstacles.

In my life - I live completely by faith which in turn means I live by what I cannot see as my belief is above the norm. My purpose is to be a Faith Ambassador, encouraging and uplifting people by using my own experience and skills to enable more people to be all they can be. Now this is something that I do fluently and it feeds my soul but like in any fairy tale there is always an enemy trying to bring you down. Now I am not saying life is a fairy tale but I am saying that everything in life even as simple as a fairy tale has a lesson.

The trick to really becoming the best version of yourself, is by allowing the trial or whatever is attacking your purpose to run its coarse and while this is happening you need to persevere with a positive and steadfast attitude.
This is by far the hardest part of finding your purpose because there comes a point in your journey where it feels like nothing is going to happen, that things are never going to go your way, and it's in that moment that you need to draw from your inner, most sacred strength. Now I believe in God and in my journey because he is living within me, my inner strength comes from Christ living in me.

So my encouragement with this is very simple. As a human being you will find yourself frustrated, you will be angry, you will want to believe all the negative things that the enemy, the big bad wolf, the evil queen, the witch and all the naysayers will say to make you feel worthless and like you will never reach your goal. What happens in a fairy tale - good always perseveres, why? because of the attitude that you dress with your purpose.

As simple as it is, we have been taught this fact from a young age but because of reality, society and worldly views, we find that many of us adapted our childlike thinking based on the opinions and experiences of others, so instead of feeding the good spirit of hope and goodness, we allowed the spirit of doubt and worry to consume us.

Everyday you decide what you fill your life with - when doubt and fear and worry come, acknowledge it but do not allow it to consume you - because allowing that is a decision. Choose to persevere in positivity and good attitude even if your heart feels like it's failing your faith. Love the fact that your purpose will prevail and is stronger than you think. Perseverance must complete to become complete, something that is mentioned in James 1.

Life is worth living, You are worth believing in, Your purpose is possible! Don't give up and learn from every lesson:)

The Legacy of True Beauty has embarked on a new womens campaign that will celebrate the diversity of women in this country called the "New African Woman ".





It will focus on the highs and lows that these women have experienced and how they have overcome them.


Including  their personal  development over the years on  what  valuable lessons they have learnt as women in these times.


The new African women is a women who defines herself in her own terms. She is a women who is resilient and works hard no matter the circumstance, She is a women who refuses to be defined and labelled by anyone else. She is a women determined to make a legacy.





We will culminate the online official launch of The Legacy of True Beauty Women Documentary this Month of June  , with all we have achieved, we want to celebrate our 6 year anniversary on this amazing journey. A time to reflect and  as  move forward to keep enriching the lives of young men and women which will take this year  .

 However We found it important to have this launch a way to celebrate the hard work women put into making their dreams comes true and we will share the success stories of the Founder of The Legacy of True Beauty.


We would like to salute all the inspiration women from all works of life who work hard in all they do and are not held down by their circumstances. We salute you  with the ability to rise.

The Legacy of True Beauty took time to learn more about this dynamic woman.


Christine Bekker says she was born a  “ farm girl” who was caught in a big city with global dreams. I had the opportunity to both travel and live internationally after having completed her studies . She then started her own company, CBD – Christine Bekker Designs 4 years ago but only actively started growing it as a business about 2 years ago. CBD is a marketing agency that branches out into managing celebrity publicity accounts, customized events, ATL, BTL, PR, Social media, holistic brand strategies, ambassador campaigns… –always keeping it interesting and different every day .


Christine’s brand is about  “Rethink your thinking and challenge the way things have always been done in the past and stand out from the clutter.  Challenge she says is what can be done.  When you put your mind to something – anything is possible.  She believes that one must do  things in such a way that your client will always come back for more.





Although a success in her own right already, she says she is still  far from reaching her full potential.   She sees  years of greatness ahead and that is the most exciting part of the  journey. She is ever so  grateful for every opportunity – big or small and really doesn’t want to  get to a point where she feels  completely satisfied – there  will always be the  next challenge to look out for or another  mountain to conquer.
                                                               
The belief that life is all about balance is how Christine copes with being a wife, a mother and a working woman.  It is, however, easier said than done.  It is important to her that in the process of attending to all the different aspects in life that matters  you must look after yourself as well. Planning is key and support is crucial and she is very fortunate to have both. . Being a wife, mother and business woman, she finds these roles extremely motivating. “I want to live my passion but making my family proud is what drives me”, she is quoted as saying.



Challenges are learning curves - Sometimes  project that have never been done before come your way and the initial thought of it being daunting is soon dissipated by fact that is new, challenging and the faith that others have in Christine is what  encourages her to do an exceptional job.

She has learned that  planning, communication and a good team to work with is absolutely essential. Team work is paramount as all skills are not possessed by single individuals. Asking for help is never considered demeaning in Christine’s world.  Just ensure that the channels of communication are clear and keep an honest relationship is kept through it all.

Her advice to the young and to women who want to succeed in the  workplace is that one must learn as much as one can  from your employer! Your job should not be  seen as  a job – it should be seen as  a learning opportunity to empower and  to fulfill dreams. She encourages women to ask  questions, look around and  learn from superiors,  colleagues and  competitors.  Mistakes too  are  what we learn from so one should not be afraid of them.   It is through mistakes, experience and learning that opportunities are seen and these equip on to take on bigger and greater challenges.  She further advises that one should not  focus on the achievements of those around you instead the focus should be on what you do and how you will make an impact,how you can make that improvement and what impression you will leave behind. Again she urges women to  have a long term plan in place and to follow it.


There may be times when  women feel intimidated in business and the reasons could vary.
This may have occurred more in the past than now. Women of today are more self- empowered, confident and passionate about doing a great job and showing that they can get the job done. They do, however, need mentorship and this is where  there is a major gap for future business leaders to be developed.

Christine says that her journey to get to where she is today is purely accident and She took a chance she says.  

She did not know what the future was going to hold so she resigned whilst she  was on maternity leave with her son. Her  husband was and is her biggest supporter and the one who encouraged her to take the step and he continues to support  her in  in every way he can.  

Her lessons from t entrepreneurship is that every day is an opportunity – it is your approach  that differentiates you from your peers. Being an entrepreneur is a constant hustle but one thrives on that adrenaline. What she has learned is  to turn everything  into opportunity to learn something new. She tries to find people who are willing to educate and provide  advice and asking questions is also another way to  earn. Try to learn through other people’s mistakes.

Planning too is everything and having a to do list is the key to not feeling overwhelmed when there are too many  projects going on at the same time.


Being the Brand behind two famous men Maps Maponyane and Jonathan Boynton-Lee has been most interesting every day comes with a new adventure. Shes loves that no day is the same and something new is learnt every single day.



Christine’s Every day motivation is the gratitude for  the opportunity to be an entrepreneur and have the flexibility of time to be a wife, mother, businesswoman and most importantly to have choices which is entirely yours to make.


Her  thoughts on women empowerment and the changes she would want to see in  the women of South Africa is that she is  incredibly inspired by the courage  of the women in South Africa who  challenge the norm and to chase their dreams. They do  not make any excuses and put a plan of action in place and  start bit by bit to make their  dream become a reality. The  future of your life is in your own hands. Only you can make things happen for yourself and today  is the first day of the rest of your life so go make it happen!

The one word that describes Christine and  the legacy she would like to leave behind is  Inspire
 It is her intention to  encourage, support and motivate people in everything she does. She wants to make a difference wherever she goes.  






The essence of true beauty in a woman is confidence. . She is the one who believes in herself and does not await anyone’s approval to proceed with her dreams. She is the one who makes things happen by doing it herself. She is  the one who does not  think of herself as more superior than others but admires and learns from others.  She tries to improve herself more than trying to prove herself. She does prove to be better than others.

She is kind and loving. She shares and gives. She celebrates the good times and pushes herself through the tough times. She advises and nurtures but she is also strong and willing to get her hands dirty to execute. A woman of true beauty is not all about a pretty face and a good figure. She is the one person  you want to be around. She is beautiful because she wants to be a better person every day and everyday she thrives to do  more. This is a woman of true beauty.

Challenges you have faced working in the corporate world?
It has been good, challenges are there but I overcome them, I really can’t complain.

Your thoughts on women empowerment in South Africa?
I feel there is not yet woman empowerment, the few which are empowered, they will never transferal in the knowledge to other woman. Empowerment of woman in SA it’s about who you know, you will go from pillar to post, until at the end you throw in a towel, sometime that should take 6 months will take you 2 years.

Which black women have had the strongest influence on you?
My beautiful mother.


Highlights of your career and achievements?
My first house and car, wow!


What challenges have you faced as a black woman?
As black woman, you live with challenge especially white people, we still have long way. It was a struggle to be admitted at Wits Teck, because of the course I want to sturdy because of my skin colour. 6. Black woman are second best, what's good for your white counter part is not good for you, same work but different salary, education and experience does not play part due the colour of your skin, is a fact.


The change you would like to see in women within South Africa?
More woman in high position and to be able to impart the knowledge. SA economy can grow if woman were given opportunity as man. The red tape is just too much for woman, lots of woman are educated and experienced, not long ago example they complaining that there are few woman judges than man, the truth is seen as male department and their lots of woman who are qualified for that.

What are your views in South African politics?
It is interesting time in our politic and is time to change to new government.

Changes you want to see within South Africa Economy?
Right people for the write job and qualification, it will help our economy.

 Advice to young girls?
Concentrate on your education and your best friend is your mother. Be the kind of girl / woman who knows that no matter how much this journey feels like an uphill battle ,now is not the time to give up ,because God is with you and equipping you to be strong  in this very moment - Dimakatso Mahomo
