WHAT DOES BEAUTY MEAN TO YOU ..

There is a saying that goes, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, so here at The Legacy of True Beauty  , we took the time to talk to our #TLOTB Make up Artists , Chele Sidembe and Kholekile Mnisi, to get their take on beauty and their passion for what they do.

What does beauty mean to you?

Kholekile:  Beauty for me is a characteristic of a person, .It stems from cultural perceptions, religious perceptions and social constructs. It is a widely accepted concept of what is seen as harmonious, noble and is heavily influenced by other factors such as physical appearance, social character and even fashion and style as well.

Where did you find your passion in make up?

Chele: When l was growing up. I saw my cousins using some funny powders. Somehow l began to want to know the secret behind that. I went to college to do hair and from there l began to feel like beauty isn't complete without make up, developed a passion of being a make-up artist which today I don’t regret at all.

Kholekile: I started working as beauty consultant for Signature Cosmetics and Fragrances. I found my passion when I saw the impact I had when I applied make up on people and they felt transformed and rejuvenated. I saw it fit that it was more than a job to me but it was a calling because each time I expressed my "art of make-up" I connected deeply with each of the customers in the store. It has been a journey for me that changed me and transformed me as an individual.

What do you enjoy or love about make up?

Kholekile: I lose myself in the process, and having someone trust you enough with making them look good is more than rewarding. I can never get enough of it. Each time I do it I just want to do it more and more.
Chele: Make up brings out the features of a person; it highlights what they naturally have. I enjoy the confidence boost it gives women, they walk away feeling better than ever.

Best make up brands and. Why?

Kholekile: I really believe an artist is their best brand. We tend to look at the product and associate with the brand but for me it is something really personal. I am my own brand and a product is just an aid for me to be able to come with an end product that can be of value to the consumer. I have worked with Revlon, MAC, Estee Lauder and I have to say Kyrolan is the best brand I have worked with.

Give us a brief illustration on how to enhance a women's beauty using make up?

Chele: l can contour the nostrils to make them appear smaller and highlight the center of the nose so as to bring the nose forward and look smaller. Same with the cheeks, also contour the cheeks to bring out the oval face and highlight under the eyes. For someone with a short or smaller chin, l highlight the chin to elongate so as to elongate.

Kholekile: The trick it understand the needs of the client, be one with them, be present and try by all means to not betray them trusting you with their being with the hope that you will make them look beautiful.

Who is your favourite make-up artist and why?

Kholekile: Nthato Mashishi. I look up to him. He knows it. I love his approach. Technique and skill come last to him. What matters to him is a personal relation with his clients and that is just my approach as well.

Chele: My favourite make-up artist : Lindy Bester, She taught me how to apply make-up and how to play around with eye shadows and all. I like the way she applies her make-up and give it a natural look. That’s what I’m all about enhancing natural looks.
